We're a Carbon Neutral Website
We chose our server hosts very carefully. Not only are they one of the very few, highly secure, Payment Card Industry (PCI) certified data centres we have ever found, they have become the very first UK hosting business in the UK to achieve certification against the British Standards Institutions PAS 2060 Standard for Carbon Neutrality.
Data centres (which are necessary for the secure housing of the servers needed to run internet websites), use a large amount of energy and emit tonnes of CO2 every year. In fact, data centres worldwide are expected to generate 533 million tonnes of CO2 by 2020 (according to the Carbon Trust).
Recognising the need for action, our hosts developed carbon efficient solutions for their whole business, using the international standard ISO14064 as guide for the monitoring and management of carbon footprint and in October 2010 became carbon neutral by offsetting the annual carbon footprint of the head office and data centres - including all devices and daily operational power consumption.
Working with one of the world leaders in carbon management to offset carbon emissions. They are contributing to a number of hydropower renewable energy schemes, which reduce greenhouse gas emissions by displacing power from higher-emission fossil fuel sources on the regional electric grid and are moving towards generating their own clean energy, using hydropower to power their hosting solutions.
Their foresight will make them the first hosting provider powered by hydro-electricity, a green power source that will prevent Carbon emissions from happening in the first place.
